A dust devil is a small, rotating column of air that forms over land, typically in arid or semi-arid regions, when hot air near the surface rises quickly through cooler air above, creating a visible swirling vortex of dust and debris. Unlike tornadoes, dust devils are usually harmless and short-lived, but they can cause minor damage and pose risks to people and property if they grow large enough.
